Acne term is used for plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, cysts and nodules which occur on the face, neck, chest, back, upper arms and shoulders. It is not restricted to any age group however most commonly found in teenagers. There are certain myths that are associated with Acne like
Myth 1:- Acne may be caused by fatty, oily and fried foods.
Fact 1: It is completely untrue. NO scientific studies show that greasy diet, oily foods can cause acne. Instead there are certain foods that can worsen acne like those with high calcium content, iodine and sea food.
Myth 2: Poor hygiene may increase the chances of acne
Fact 2:- Acne is not caused by poor hygiene instead occurs due to the combination of oil, dead cells and bacteria. However by gentle washing with mild soap, water and keeping face dry at least twice a day may reduce bacteria which is responsible for skin infection and acne
Myth 3: Cosmetic or makeup products can cause acne
Fact 3: It is true to some extent. Some cosmetics may cause unhealthy clogging of the skin pores. Thus it is safe to use nonacnegenic or noncomedogenic makeup products.
Myth 4: Masturbation and sex may increase the risk of acne
Fact 4: It is not true. Studies revealed that a sex hormone testosterone is responsible for acne but masturbation and sex had no relevance to the occurrence of such skin disease.
Myth 5: The best way to get rid of pimples is to squeeze them out
Fact 5: Squeezing the pimples may leads to the formation of permanent scars. Thus it is advisable not to squeeze your pimples
