Cause and Types of Acne!!

Studies reveled that acne occur when there is a problem with the hair follicle. Sebaceous glands are located on the hair follicle, chest, back, neck and face. These sebaceous glands manufacture sebum which is an oily substance responsible for maintaining the moisture of your skin and hair.

Thus when there is adequate production of sebum, acne does not occur but when there is more production of sebum due to hormonal changes, acne occurs. These hormonal changes occur mainly when children go through puberty.

Androgens are the hormones that are responsible for production of more sebum. These are male hormones which are more prevalent in males than females. Now during puberty, most of the people have dead skin cells from their hair follicles which when mixed with sebum cause blockage of hair follicle openings. In this blocked openings, bacteria can develop which then produces a substance causing acne. Acne mainly occurs on face shoulder, back, chest and neck.

Furthermore acne bumps are of different types as given below:-

(Note: - A comedo occurs when a hair follicle is clogged with sebum, dead skin and bacteria.)

Whitehead: - A closed non-inflammatory comedo that has a white center.

Blackhead: - An open non-inflammatory comedo that looks black.

Papule: - An inflammatory comedo that resembles a solid, red bump.

Pustule: - An inflammatory comedo that resembles whitehead. I is dome shaped and is fragile.

Nodule: - A deep, solid, inflamed bump. A nodule can cause scarring and can be painful.

Cyst: - It is a large, deep, pus-filled bump which resembles a boil. A cyst can cause scarring and can be painful also. It is usually bigger than a pustule.

Nodulocystic: - it is a severe form of acne in which nodules and cysts occur together. The color of this acne is dark red or purple.
